There are so many great things to do in Albuquerque, and we’re quickly coming up on the fall season, which is a spectacular season to enjoy the land of Enchantment. One of our favorite things to do each fall is to walk through the gorgeous cottonwoods on the Paseo del Bosque trail bordering the Rio Grande River.
Though there are plenty of places to go hiking and biking and immerse yourself in the impressive beauty of northern New Mexico, there are none as unique as the Paseo del Bosque Trail. The Paseo del Bosque Trail is a beautiful multi-use trail network in the heart of Albuquerque’s urban core, giving residents and visitors alike a quick and scenic respite surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the cottonwood forest.
Like many of Albuquerque’s top attractions, the Paseo del Bosque Trail is easily accessed from our Bed and Breakfast in Albuquerque. The closest access point to us is near the Botanical Garden, less than a mile from our Bed and Breakfast in Albuquerque. It’s a lovely trail to visit any time of year, but even more spectacular in the fall. Join us for an unforgettable trip to northern New Mexico this fall, and book a room at our top-rated Bed and Breakfast in Albuquerque today!
Beautiful Colors on the Paseo del Bosque Trail
The Paseo del Bosque Trail meanders along the edge of downtown Albuquerque along the Rio Grande River for 16 miles. It’s a paved multi-use trail perfect for walking and biking. Sections of the Paseo del Bosque Trail pass by some of Albuquerque’s most popular attractions, including the ABQ BioPark.
The Paseo del Bosque takes users on a beautiful journey through the Cottonwood Bosque, the Spanish word for forest, that borders the Rio Grande River. This beautiful trail is uninterrupted by road traffic and offers a remarkable opportunity to watch wildlife right in the heart of the city.
In addition to just being a beautiful place to take a walk, the Paseo del Bosque Trail also features various public artworks. In 2009, a series of exhibitions called LAND/ART was installed along the Paseo del Bosque Trail and included other site-specific installations and lectures.
In the Bosque, there is a cube made from a piece of fallen cottonwood trunk and reclaimed heavy-gauge wire. The Cube is simplistic in form, but in its simplicity, it’s also symbolic of the Rio Grande Bosque in which it sits: A natural element preserved in the heart of an urban core.
Aside from giving visitors access to public art and the ABQ Bio Park, the Paseo del Bosque Trail also passes through the Rio Grande Valley State Park. The park spans both sides of the river and extends from the Sandia Pueblo in the north to the Isleta Pueblo in the south. The park has opportunities for paddling, wildlife viewing, and even more hiking and biking.
Another major attraction along the Paseo del Bosque Trail is the opportunity to see the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park. This incredible park is part of the Rio Grande Flyway and therefore offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching. There are also indoor and outdoor wildlife viewing opportunities at the nature center.
Finally, don’t miss the National Hispanic Cultural Center. It’s a lovely place to take a break from the heat of the Paseo del Bosque Trail. It offers visitors the chance to view exhibits and performing arts and listen to lectures and book talks about Hispanic culture as it relates to the local community.
Access to the Paseo del Bosque Trail is just minutes from our Bed and Breakfast in Albuquerque, too – making it a great way to enjoy a respite in nature during your time with us!
