3 reasons you need to visit the Sandia Peak Tramway
1. The Awe-Inspiring Views from Sandia Peak Tramway
The Sandia Peak Tramway takes you on a nearly 3-mile ride up the side of the Sandia Mountains. As you scale the rugged mountains, you’ll be able to see some of the most stunning panoramic views you’ve ever seen! Once at the top of the peak, you’ll be able to take postcard-worthy photos that you’ll always treasure. While planning your trip, keep in mind that the ride from the base of the mountain to the top is approximately 15-minutes and temperatures can drop up to 30 degrees cooler as you travel up to the peak.
2. Hiking/Skiing
In addition to the wonderful views, you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities on Sandia Peak. There are several hundred hiking trails that wind through the mountains of this area. This includes the popular Tramway Trail, which leads right out of the lower Tramway terminal and connects with several other trails to create the perfect route for exploring this scenic region. As always, appropriate clothing, sturdy hiking shoes, and plenty of food and snacks are recommended for hiking in the mountains.
During the winter months, the Sandia Peak Ski Area is one of the best places in town to get your adrenaline pumping! You’ll also find the New Mexico Ski Hall of Fame and the New Mexico Ski Museum at the base of the tram and displays of various artifacts and memorabilia related to winter sports. No matter what time of year you decide to visit the Sandia Peak Tramway, you’ll always have something to do!
