The Best Things to Do in Albuquerque This Winter

If you love getting out and exploring grand landscapes and breathing fresh mountain air in the great outdoors, Albuquerque is no doubt the perfect destination for you. Many of the best things to do in Albuquerque in the winter are outdoors-oriented, including a fun range of snow sports like downhill skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Of course, there are also plenty of mild-weather activities to enjoy, like hiking and biking around town, not to mention a vast array of cultural sights and attractions worth seeing. Add to all these best things to do in Albuquerque this winter a thriving culinary scene full of fresh local flavors and craft beer, wine, and spirits, and you have the making of a fabulous winter getaway. There’s so much more to Albuquerque than meets the eye – so we’ve curated a fun list of all the best things to do in Albuquerque this winter.

  1. Given we’re perched on the edge of Old Town Albuquerque, it almost goes without saying that one of the best things to do in Albuquerque in the winter (and the rest of the year) is to explore the charming shops, boutiques, and attractions in Old Town.
  2. If the weather outside is wetter or chillier than you’d like, you can always turn to the many fantastic museums in Albuquerque, including the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, which honors the diverse cultures and contributions of New Mexico’s 19 Pueblos.
  3. Albuquerque has been around for centuries but became famous as a destination along the famed Historic Route 66. Today, you can still cruise down Central Avenue and enjoy 17 miles of this popular route, seeing deon signs and attractions that are still present.
  4. If you want to get out and explore a bit, there are some great bike routes in and around the city. Biking is one of the best things to do in Albuquerque, no matter the season. We have secure bike storage at our Albuquerque Bed and Breakfast, and we’d be more than happy to share some of our favorite routes with you, too. There are more than 400 miles of trails to choose from!
  5. When you’re done biking for the day, head to one of the many fantastic local Albuquerque breweries and enjoy a delicious pint of craft beer. There are more than 30 of them around town, not to mention great wineries, distilleries, and bars.
  6. One of our favorite parts of any getaway is dining out at new restaurants – and luckily, eating out is one of the best things to do in Albuquerque in the winter. There are so many incredible restaurants in Albuquerque to try, and far fewer crowds are competing for reservations!
  7. If you want to have some fun in the snow, you can find some just outside downtown Albuquerque at Sandia Peak. There’s excellent hiking at Sandia Peak the rest of the year, but during the winter, it’s home to some great skiing and snowshoeing.
  8. Don’t miss your chance to experience the popular ABQ BioPark. This incredible zoo, aquarium, and botanical garden are among the best things to do in Albuquerque in the winter, and it’s just minutes from our Albuquerque Bed and Breakfast.
